I will never forget that scene on CNN in 1991 when Kasparov was the only guest on Larry King’s show who believed that the coup would not succeed. Everyone around me was saying “what does a chess player know?”

It turned out that every single one of the experts was wrong. Today, many Western experts are still complacently wrong about Russia and China.

Chess players need not just intelligence but creativity to come up with unexpected moves. They also need to make accurate predictions and see through lame excuses. Kasparov exhibits all of these qualities in his analysis.
