Now they discover that some of the more desirable women in the big cities were busy footing the bill for a foreigner’s lifestyle while he declined to wear a condom. Nationalist forums that normally seethe about US aircraft carriers in the distant South China Sea suddenly find themselves confronted with a more intimate form of American presence. It is hard to maintain the pure enemy narrative when the enemy is also the guy who got the girl and in fact, he might have gotten hundreds of them and left the bill on the table. 中国人买单.
Of course, the usual caveats apply. The accusations remain online testimony rather than court verdicts. People exaggerate and inflate the numbers (probably not hundreds but definitely a lot more than the average Chinese man). Jackson himself has gone silent, which in these cases is usually taken as confirmation by the internet jury. Still, the broad outlines are consistent enough across multiple accounts that the story has wings of its own.
What makes it painfully awkward for the official line is the timing. China is already wrestling with low fertility, aging, and a skewed sex ratio.
